1. How many apples can you eat on an empty stomach?
2. If there are 5 apples on the counter and you remove 2, how many apples do you have?
Now for story time, I trust you’re all sitting comfortably….
A teacher is stood in front of her class teaching subtraction. She asks one of the pupils if I give you 3 apples and then take away 2, how many apples do you have left?
The boy thinks about it and replies confidently with the answer “2”.
The teacher shakes her head and tries again, “If you have 3 oranges and I take away 2 how many will you have left?”
Again the boy ponders on the question, before answering “1”.
The teacher looks confused and asks why the difference is his answer. The boy looks equally as confused at his teacher’s reaction before explaining he has an apple in his bag for lunch.
Sometimes if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for,it helps to get someone else’s perspective. That’s why here at PIP-UK, we’re working to build our ‘Shared Experiences’ section so we can all learn from each other. If you’d like to tell your story, please contact us.
And the answers to the riddles…
You can only eat one apple before your stomach is no longer empty and you will have 2 apples as the other 3 are still on the counter 🙂
