Paralympians with Poland Syndrome

It’s less than 10 days to go before the start of the London 2012 Paralympics. At PIP-UK we wish all athletes the best of luck. We will be watching three competitors closely Kim Daniel Daybell, Matthew Silcocks and Kevin Paul. You can see more about these athletes by visiting our special paralympians page.

As we move closer to the opening ceremony we’ll keep up to date with details about when you’ll be able to see these paralympians in action.

Hi guys ,I have a daughter who has a Poland Syndrome since birth. I have organised for her to get the classification for AWD (Athletes with Disabilities) for T46? But Athletics Australia (IPC) told me that she is ineligible for the classification as she is not disability enough? But they didn’t tell me why she is not eligible. They just say that she did not met the criteria? I guess she can moves her affected up through the gravity? I have seen other athletes with PS they can move their affected arm just like my daughter.

I truly don’t understand why IPC allowed other athletes with Poland Sydnrome get the classification for T46 not my daughter? Can you please explain why?

Your advice would be much appreciated.

      Hi Julie

At first glance that seems unfair that they wouldn’t explain why. Leave it with us for a short while and we’ll see what we can find out.
